Job summary

Platinum-Recruitment in Essex is seeking an experienced HGV Technician/Mechanic to maintain a range of commercial vehicles. You will perform routine servicing, diagnostics, and repairs, working to main dealer standards and with opportunities to gain experience with EV technology.

The role offers a basic salary up to £56,160 with overtime, a 45-hour week, and comprehensive training plans designed to support career progression in a leading truck manufacturer environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in HGV maintenance, servicing and repairs.
• Strong computer-aided diagnostics and fault-finding skills.
• Proven knowledge of heavy goods vehicles and commercial vehicle systems.
• Experience with main dealer environments preferred but not required.
• Willingness to develop skills in EVs and next-generation truck technology.
• Customer-focused approach to vehicle repairs and workshop standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs/trucks.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify faults in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
• Perform fault finding and vehicle repairs to manufacturer specifications.
• Inspect vehicles and identify components needing repair or replacement.
• Maintain accurate service documentation and workshop records.
• Collaborate with team to uphold high safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

As an HGV Technician, Truck Technician or HGV Mechanic, you’ll help maintain the safety, reliability and performance of a range of commercial vehicles. Your duties will include:

Carrying out routine servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs on HGVs and trucks.

Using computer-aided diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.

Completing fault finding, diagnostics and effective vehicle repairs.

Working to manufacturer specifications and main dealer workshop standards.

Inspecting vehicles and identifying components requiring repair or replacement.

Completing service documentation and maintaining accurate workshop records.

Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure vehicles are maintained to a high standard.

Following health and safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organised working environment.

What we’re looking for

We’re keen to hear from experienced HGV Technicians, HGV Mechanics, Truck Technicians, HGV Truck Mechanics and Commercial Vehicle Technicians who are looking to progress their careers.

Level 3 HGV qualification or equivalent.

Proven experience in HGV maintenance, servicing and repairs.

Strong computer-aided diagnostics and fault-finding skills.

A good all-round knowledge of heavy goods vehicles and commercial vehicle systems.

Previous main dealer experience would be advantageous and may support access to the higher hourly rate.

A professional approach to vehicle repairs, safety and workshop standards.

An interest in developing your skills in electric vehicles and emerging truck technology.

Candidates with strong all-round HGV experience and excellent diagnostic skills will also be considered, even without previous main dealer experience.
