Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop. You will diagnose, service, repair and maintain a wide range of Heavy Goods Vehicles to ensure safety, reliability and compliance with standards.

The role involves routine servicing, inspections and diagnostics, plus more complex mechanical, electrical and electronic repairs. Training and development opportunities are available in a supportive workshop environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical knowledge and practical repair experience.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience diagnosing electrical and electronic vehicle faults.
  • A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining HGVs to a high standard.
  • Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Completing mechanical, electrical and electronic fault diagnosis.
  • Identifying faults efficiently and carrying out appropriate repairs.
  • Working across a variety of commercial vehicle systems and components.
  • Ensuring vehicles meet all relevant safety, legal and compliance requirements.
  • Completing accurate job cards and recording work carried out.
  • Recording parts used and maintaining clear workshop documentation.
  • Working closely with colleagues to minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Providing clear technical information where required.
  • Using workshop tools, diagnostic equipment and machinery safely and correctly.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Following all relevant health and safety procedures and workshop policies.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy and well-established commercial vehicle workshop.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and wants to be part of a professional, supportive workshop environment.

You will be responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing and maintaining a wide range of Heavy Goods Vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and fully compliant with legal and manufacturer standards.

The role will involve a mixture of routine servicing, inspections, diagnostics and more complex mechanical, electrical and electronic repairs.

Working Hours

with 30-min break , alternating each week - Overtime paid at Time and a Half

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining HGVs to a high standard
  • Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Completing mechanical, electrical and electronic fault diagnosis

What We're Looking For
  • A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent
  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and practical repair experience
  • Experience diagnosing electrical and electronic vehicle faults
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A good understanding of health and safety within a workshop environment
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider workshop team
  • A Class 1 HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
