Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to maintain and repair a range of heavy commercial vehicles in a busy workshop in the Croydon area.

You’ll carry out servicing, diagnose faults, and prepare vehicles for MOT while adhering to DVSA standards and safety requirements. A full UK driving licence is required; HGV licencing is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Qualified with Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent.
• Full UK driving licence is required; HGV licence advantageous but not essential.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills relevant to HGVs.
• Knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Complete inspections and preventative maintenance per DVSA requirements.
• Diagnose faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and repair components.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure roadworthiness standards are met.
• Attend breakdowns and document work with job cards and compliance sheets.
• Work independently and as part of a workshop team; maintain safety and quality.

Job description

You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard. This role would suit a qualified technician who takes pride in their workmanship and enjoys working as part of a skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles
• Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
• Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards
• Attend vehicle breakdowns when required
• Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation
• Identify additional defects and report any required repairs
• Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards
• Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
• The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
• A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
• A full UK driving licence
• An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
