Job summary

Russell Taylor Group is seeking an experienced HGV Technician in Oxford to service, maintain and repair heavy goods vehicles. You will diagnose faults, perform DVSA-compliant inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT.

Work may be done independently or within a workshop team, ensuring safety and quality standards and accurate paperwork. We offer a supportive workshop environment with modern equipment and opportunities for training.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles
  • Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
  • Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns when required
  • Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation
  • Identify additional defects and report any required repairs
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards
  • Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
  • A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
  • Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
  • Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
  • A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
  • A full UK driving licence
  • An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
