Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to service and repair a varied fleet of heavy vehicles. The role emphasizes quality workmanship, safety, and teamwork in a busy workshop environment.

You will diagnose faults, perform routine maintenance, and prepare vehicles for MOT while ensuring compliance with DVSA standards and company policies.

Qualifications

• Experience as HGV/HGV mechanic or heavy vehicle technician.
• Qualification: Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent.
• Strong diagnostic and electrical skills with DVSA knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and vans.
• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance per DVSA rules.
• Diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment and repair components
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and maintain roadworthiness standards.
• Attend breakdowns when required and document work clearly.
• Keep workshop/tools clean and safe for team use.

Job description

You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard. This role would suit a qualified technician who takes pride in their workmanship and enjoys working as part of a skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles
• Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
• Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards
• Attend vehicle breakdowns when required
• Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation
• Identify additional defects and report any required repairs
• Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards
• Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
• The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
• A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
• A full UK driving licence
• An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
