Job summary

Russell Taylor Group is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to service and repair heavy vehicles at our UK workshop. You will diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance, and prepare vehicles for MOT, ensuring compliance with DVSA requirements.

The role involves repairs across brakes, steering, suspension and electrical systems, plus handling breakdowns when needed. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills, a Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an HGV Technician or similar role.
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills.
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements.
• The ability to work independently and in a workshop team.
• A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence; HGV licence advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure roadworthiness standards are met.
• Attend vehicle breakdowns when required.
• Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation.
• Identify additional defects and report required repairs.
• Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining quality and safety.
• Keep tools and workshop clean, organised and maintained.

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
• The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
• A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
• A full UK driving licence
• An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
