Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to maintain and repair a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles in a busy workshop. You will carry out servicing, inspections, diagnose faults with appropriate equipment, repair components, prepare vehicles for MOT, and ensure safety standards are met while working as part of a supportive team.

A Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and a full UK driving licence are required; HGV licence is

Qualifications

• Qualified with Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic capabilities.
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Safety-focused with a reliable, organised approach.
• Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards.
• Attend vehicle breakdowns when required.
• Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation.
• Identify additional defects and report any required repairs.
• Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards.
• Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
• A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
• Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
• The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
• A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
• A full UK driving licence
• An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
