Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd. is seeking a skilled HGV Technician to service, repair and inspect a varied fleet of heavy commercial vehicles. You will work to high safety standards in a busy, supportive workshop.

The role requires a Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair qualification, strong mechanical and electrical diagnostics, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. DVSA regulations, routine servicing, MOT preparation and accurate paperwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Qualified technician with Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
  • Experience with servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to diagnose faults using diagnostic equipment and work to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance per DVSA requirements.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults with diagnostic tools.
  • Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension and transmissions.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure roadworthiness standards.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns when required.
  • Complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance docs.
  • Identify additional defects and report repairs needed.
  • Ensure work is efficient while upholding quality and safety.
  • Keep tools and workshop clean and organised.

Job description

You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a varied range of heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest possible standard. This role would suit a qualified technician who takes pride in their workmanship and enjoys working as part of a skilled and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles
  • Complete scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with DVSA requirements
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
  • Repair and replace components including brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions and electrical systems
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT and ensure they meet all required roadworthiness standards
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns when required
  • Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and compliance documentation
  • Identify additional defects and report any required repairs
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards
  • Keep tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and properly maintained
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician
  • A recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience
  • Strong mechanical, electrical and diagnostic skills
  • Good knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance requirements
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team
  • A reliable, organised and safety-focused approach
  • A full UK driving licence
  • An HGV licence would be advantageous but is not essential
