Job summary

Nicholas Associates is seeking a skilled HGV Technician in Barking, Essex to join our client’s maintenance team. You will repair, service and maintain heavy goods vehicles to keep the fleet safe and efficient.

The role offers opportunities to work with a broad range of technical skills in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will have proven experience in vehicle repair, preferably in heavy goods vehicle maintenance, with strong mechanical knowledge and electrical experience.

Qualifications

• IRTEC qualification preferred
• Proven experience in vehicle repair, preferably HGV maintenance
• Strong mechanical knowledge with electrical understanding

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections and diagnostic assessments on HGVs to identify faults or potential issues
• Perform repairs and maintenance tasks on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to facilitate accurate repairs
• Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to carry out repairs
• Maintain detailed records of work and parts used for each vehicle
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company policies

Job description

Position: HGV Technician

Location: Barking, Essex

Salary: £45-55K DOE

Hours of Work: Days - 07:00-16:00 Monday to Friday (Saturday overtime, as requested)

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Technician to join our client's maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and servicing of heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely. The role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise a broad range of technical skills within a dynamic environment, supporting the smooth operation of our client's fleet.

Duties

• Conduct routine inspections and diagnostic assessments on HGVs to identify faults or potential issues.
• Perform repairs and maintenance tasks including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Interpret technical schematics and wiring diagrams to facilitate accurate repairs.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to carry out repairs efficiently.
• Maintain detailed records of work carried out and parts utilised for each vehicle.
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company policies.

Requirements

• Proven experience in vehicle or equipment repair, preferably within heavy goods vehicle maintenance. IRTEC qualification preferable.
• Strong mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience is essential.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment used in vehicle maintenance.
• Experience with assembly, equipment repair, and general maintenance tasks.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively.
• Knowledge of operating heavy machinery such as excavators and forklifts is advantageous.
• Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping.
• LOLER experience is beneficial although not essential
• Being able to work within a team and communicate well with the transport team.
