Job summary

Cheshire East Council is seeking a Fleet Workshop operative to undertake maintenance and inspection of fleet vehicles, from small cars to HGVs, with support and guidance to develop skills.

The role requires GCSE English and Maths and strong communication, IT, and organisational abilities. The position runs Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week, with out-of-hours breakdown cover as needed. Cheshire East values its workforce and offers a range of generous employee benefits.

Qualifications

• GCSE or equivalent in English (Essential)
• GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics (Essential)

Responsibilities

• Work towards carrying out scheduled servicing inspection and preparation for testing for fleet vehicles (HGV to small vehicles)
• Work towards undertaking regular safety inspections of HGVs to maintain Goods Vehicle Operators Licence and repair defects as necessary
• Inspect vehicles, plant and equipment to diagnose faults (mechanical/electrical/hydraulic) and repair as needed
• Complete records relating to inspection, service and repair of fleet items per statutory requirements
• Liaise with colleagues, vehicle operatives and managers to prioritise workload and organise parts or support
• Provide out-of-hours repairs and breakdown cover as required by front line services
