Job summary

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is seeking a Workshop Technician (HGV) to inspect, service, maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment across the borough. You will contribute to essential services with a flexible, proactive approach.

The role offers training and development opportunities, including MOT Tester status, with a supportive workshop team and structured shift patterns. Permanent employment and pension are provided.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Studies or equivalent
• Experience in vehicle maintenance environment
• Knowledge of hydraulics, electrics, braking and transmissions
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Commitment to safety and workmanship
• Flexible and proactive approach

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs efficiently
• Undertake routine servicing and preventative maintenance
• Prepare vehicles for MOT testing
• Carry out MOT and taxi testing where qualified
• Ensure work meets DVSA standards and safety requirements
• Maintain accurate maintenance records
• Provide technical advice to users
• Participate in out-of-hours call-out rota
