Job summary

Veolia is hiring a HGV Driver/Sweeper in Camden. You will operate and drive Veolia vehicles, perform street sweeping duties, empty litter bins, and monitor equipment. You will use onboard tech to confirm tasks and report issues, while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a valid HGV licence, previous sweeper experience, and ability to work well alone or in a team. Competitive hourly pay and Veolia benefits accompany a 39-hour week.

Responsibilities

• Assist in sweeping on occasions; manual sweeping of streets and other areas.
• Ensure all Gully Grids are clear of obstructions and prevent sweepings from being swept into grids.
• Empty litter bins, replace liners, collect sweepers bags from agreed pick up points.
• Utilise onboard technology to record task confirmation and crew issues.
• Report graffiti, fly posting or damage/missing bins to Foreman/Manager.
• Check vehicle condition and roadworthiness at shift start and end; report damages.
• Drive and operate Veolia vehicles with training; ensure security and safe operation.
• Ensure loads stay within legal limits; respect MAM and GVW.
• Comply with site conditions and Health & Safety procedures when entering premises.
• Adhere to road traffic legislation; keep cab clean of litter and personal effects.
• Complete tasks efficiently, report discrepancies to Foreman/Manager.
• Report accidents/near misses fully to Foreman/Manager and police if appropriate.
• Maintain courteous, professional relations with public, client, staff and colleagues.

What you'll be doing;

• Assist in sweeping on occasions; this includes manual sweeping of streets and other areas (which can include footways, channels, alleys, subways, under and around street furniture, etc).
• Ensure that all Gully Grids are clear of any obstruction and that sweepings arising are not swept over or pushed down gully grids; such action may lead to disciplinary action.
• Empty litter bins found within your beat, ensuring that the liners are replaced properly, collect sweepers bags from agreed pick up points.
• Utilise onboard technology in real time to record task confirmation and crew related issues.
• Report locations of any graffiti, fly posting, or damage/missing litter bins and waste containers to your Foreman/Manager.
• At the commencement of each shift and prior to leaving the depot, thoroughly check your vehicle for condition and roadworthiness and complete the appropriate forms. Report any damage found to your Foreman/Manager
• Drive and operate any vehicle supplied by Veolia, having first received the relevant training.
• You are responsible for the allocated vehicle, its security and its safe operation and maneuvering (including reversing manoeuvre), as well as the security of the crew You are responsible for the refueling of the vehicle and reporting any defects or damages to the vehicle.
• You are to ensure that loads are kept within legal limits and that the vehicle remains under the maximum authorized mass (MAM) and gross vehicle weight (GVW) at all times members.
• When entering premises (customer collection points or waste transfer/disposal sites) you must comply with any site conditions especially Health & Safety procedures.
• It is your responsibility to ensure that all road traffic legislation (including parking restrictions) are adhered to.
• You are responsible for ensuring at the end of your shift the cab is left clear of litter, uniform and any personal effects.
• Perform duties in an efficient and effective manner that will ensure maximum productivity. Ensure that the tasks are completed to schedule, and report any discrepancies immediately to your Foreman or Manager.
• Ensure that all accidents/near misses that occur during the shift are reported fully to your Foreman/Manager, to the police if appropriate and that the accident/near miss reports are completed before you leave work.
• Maintain a courteous and professional relationship with members of the public, client, staff and colleagues.
