Job summary

Veolia Environmental Services (Uk) Plc in Greater London is seeking a driven driver/sweeper to support street cleaning operations. You will assist with sweeping, ensure gullies are clear, and manage litter, using onboard tech to record tasks and issues.

The role requires a valid HGV licence, prior sweeper experience, and strong communication skills. You will operate Veolia vehicles and uphold safety, compliance, and timely day-to-day duties.

Qualifications

• Experience as a street sweeper or similar operating role is required.

• Ability to work well independently as well as in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in sweeping streets and related areas on occasions.
• Keep gully grids clear and manage sweepings to avoid obstruction.
• Empty litter bins and manage liners, collect sweepers' bags at agreed points.
• Use onboard tech to record task confirmations and issues.
• Report graffiti, fly posting, or damaged waste containers to the Foreman/Manager.
• Inspect vehicle at start/end of shift and report damage or faults.
• Drive and operate Veolia vehicles with proper training.
• Be responsible for vehicle and crew safety, security, refuelling and load limits.
• Ensure loads stay within legal limits and GVW/MAM limits.
• Follow site conditions and health & safety procedures when entering premises.
• Ensure road traffic laws and parking rules are followed.
• Leave cab clean and report any remaining litter or personal effects.
• Work efficiently to meet schedule and report discrepancies.
• Report accidents/near misses to Foreman/Manager and authorities as needed.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Assist in sweeping on occasions; this includes manual sweeping of streets and other areas (which can include footways, channels, alleys, subways, under and around street furniture, etc).
• Ensure that all Gully Grids are clear of any obstruction and that sweepings arising are not swept over or pushed down gully grids; such action may lead to disciplinary action.
• Empty litter bins found within your beat, ensuring that the liners are replaced properly, collect sweepers bags from agreed pick up points.
• Utilise onboard technology in real time to record task confirmation and crew related issues.
• Report locations of any graffiti, fly posting, or damage/missing litter bins and waste containers to your Foreman/Manager.
• At the commencement of each shift and prior to leaving the depot, thoroughly check your vehicle for condition and roadworthiness and complete the appropriate forms. Report any damage found to your Foreman/Manager.
• Drive and operate any vehicle supplied by Veolia, having first received the relevant training.
• You are responsible for the allocated vehicle, its security and its safe operation and maneuvering (including reversing manoeuvre), as well as the security of the crew You are responsible for the refueling of the vehicle and reporting any defects or damages to the vehicle.
• You are to ensure that loads are kept within legal limits and that the vehicle remains under the maximum authorized mass (MAM) and gross vehicle weight (GVW) at all times members.
• When entering premises (customer collection points or waste transfer/disposal sites) you must comply with any site conditions especially Health & Safety procedures.
• It is your responsibility to ensure that all road traffic legislation (including parking restrictions) are adhered to.
• You are responsible for ensuring at the end of your shift the cab is left clear of litter, uniform and any personal effects.
• Perform duties in an efficient and effective manner that will ensure maximum productivity. Ensure that the tasks are completed to schedule, and report any discrepancies immediately to your Foreman or Manager.
• Ensure that all accidents/near misses that occur during the shift are reported fully to your Foreman/Manager, to the police if appropriate and that the accident/near miss reports are completed before you leave work.
