Job summary

HG Recruitment is seeking an HGV Class 1 Shunter in Bridgwater to safely manoeuvre trailers within the yard, position them at loading bays, and support overall transport operations. This ongoing temporary assignment offers a 42‑hour weekly contract with 8–10‑hour shifts, overtime opportunities, and night shift premium pay.

Responsibilities

• Safely manoeuvre and position trailers within the yard, loading bays and parking areas.
• Conduct daily vehicle checks and report defects or damage promptly.
• Liaise with warehouse, transport and gatehouse teams for efficient trailer movements.
• Ensure trailers are correctly coupled, uncoupled and secured.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and allocations.
• Comply with site health & safety rules, PPE and traffic plans.

HG Recruitment is looking for HGV Class 1 driver Shunters, to safely and efficiently move HGV Class 1 vehicles and trailers within the site and between designated areas, ensuring the smooth operation of yard and transport activities while maintaining compliance with safety and company procedures.

The Role:

• Safely manoeuvre and position trailers within the yard, loading bays, and parking areas.
• Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any defects or damage promptly.
• Liaise with warehouse, transport, and gatehouse teams to ensure efficient trailer movements.
• Ensure trailers are correctly coupled, uncoupled, and secured.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and allocations.
• Comply with all site health & safety rules, PPE requirements, and traffic management plans.
• Support operational flow by prioritising trailer moves as directed by the transport or yard supervisor.
• Operate shunter units or tractor units in a safe, professional manner at all times.

The Requirements:

• Valid Class 1 (Category C+E) licence
• Up-to-date CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
• Physically fit and able to unload roll cages
• Good communication skills and a customer-first approach
• Ability to work to delivery targets and adapt to different routes
• Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude
