Job summary

Zoom Recruitment is seeking an experienced Transport Operations Trainer for our Bedford client’s busy logistics operation. The role involves assessing commercial drivers, delivering on-road and classroom training, and ensuring safety, compliance and performance standards across the operation.

You will work with Transport Management, Fleet Compliance, HSE and other teams to identify training needs, maintain a training matrix and deliver inductions.

Qualifications

• Full Class 2 HGV licence with no current points or endorsements.
• Minimum 5 years' HGV driving experience.
• Industry-recognised Driver Assessor qualification/accreditation.
• Valid Driver CPC and digital tachograph card.
• Strong knowledge of Drivers' Hours regulations, tachographs and WTD.
• Strong understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confident delivering training to individuals and groups.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, email and PowerPoint.
• Experience using tachograph analysis systems

Responsibilities

• Conduct driving assessments for new and existing commercial drivers.
• Carry out assessments following at-fault RTCs and identify retraining needs.
• Deliver practical on-road driver training and classroom-based training.
• Identify and elevate training or performance concerns.
• Deliver Driver CPC training and toolbox talks.
• Carry out behavioural observations to ensure safe working practices.
• Provide vehicle familiarisation training.
• Complete driver and vehicle audits and spot checks.
• Support managers with vehicle checks and defect reporting procedures.
• Provide guidance on Drivers' Hours, WTD, tachograph rules and transport compliance.
• Monitor driver performance and compliance using data to identify trends.
• Assist with accident investigations, including reviewing vehicle camera footage.
• Keep up to date with transport legislation changes and inform drivers.
• Coordinate and deliver new starter inductions and training.
• Maintain training matrix for safety, compliance and technical training.
• Attend Health & Safety meetings and provide updates on training activity.
• Work with other departments and suppliers when onboarding equipment/services.
• Travel to other sites to deliver or attend training.
• Support wider transport operation during busy periods and drive continuous improvement.
