Job summary

Buckinghamshire Council’s Waste & Recycling team in Aylesbury is seeking a hands-on HGV Class 2 Driver Team Leader to join the operation. You will drive a refuse collection vehicle and lead a small crew to collect waste efficiently and safely.

This role combines driving with leadership responsibilities, ensuring high customer service standards and strict health and safety practices. Immediate start; temporary with potential to become permanent, 44.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• Must have HGV Class 2 driving licence.
• Driver CPC qualification required.
• Experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
• Experience leading or supervising a small crew.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Strong understanding of health and safety.

HGV Class 2 Driver Team Leader - Waste & Recycling

Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
Pay Rate: £17.57 per hour
Hours: 44.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
Start: Immediate

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Class 2 Driver Team Leader to join the Waste & Recycling team at Buckinghamshire Council in Aylesbury.

This is a hands-on role combining HGV Class 2 driving with team leadership. You will be responsible for safely operating a refuse collection vehicle while leading and supporting a small crew of Waste & Recycling Operatives throughout the working day.

You will play an important role in ensuring waste and recycling collections are completed safely, efficiently and on schedule, while maintaining high standards of customer service and health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely drive and operate a refuse collection vehicle.
• Lead and support a small team of Waste & Recycling Operatives.
• Ensure collections are completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.
• Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety.
• Monitor safe working practices across the crew.
• Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
• Work closely with supervisors and colleagues to resolve issues encountered on route.
• Provide a professional and courteous service to local residents and businesses.
• Take responsibility for the crew and daily collection route.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• A valid HGV Class 2 driving licence.
• A valid Driver CPC qualification.
• Previous experience driving HGV Class 2 vehicles.
• Previous experience leading or supervising a team, or the confidence to take responsibility for a small crew.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• A strong understanding of health and safety.
• A reliable, professional and positive approach to work.

Previous experience within waste collection, refuse services, highways or environmental services would be beneficial but is not essential.
