Job summary

Government Recruitment Service seeks a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer to join DVSA. You will assess heavy vehicle statutory test applications, including first tests and conversions, and ensure compliance with DVSA standards and legislation.

You will provide expert technical support to processing teams, operators, manufacturers and others, respond to inquiries, manage risks, and contribute to new guidance while upholding safety and performance across the vehicle testing network.

Qualifications

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for both first test and vehicle conversion, checking reports and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance.
• Respond to technical queries from non-technical processing teams and act as advisory service to frontline staff, operators, manufacturers and others.
• Investigate possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards, for example where regulatory changes occur.
• Communicate positively and effectively with internal and external customers to ensure a full understanding of their requirements and to provide concise, accurate responses.
• Provide support to the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager, representing DVSA at trade events and carrying out related tasks.
• Maintain relevant data bases as required.
• Process technical applications ensuring they are fully assessed and documentation is compliant.
• Respond to technical queries from processing teams and act as trusted advisors to various stakeholders.
