Government Recruitment Service in Cheltenham is recruiting a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer to support the DVSA vehicle testing network and ensure compliance with legislation and DVSA standards. You will assess heavy vehicle applications, including first tests and conversions, and provide expert advice to front‑line teams, operators and manufacturers.

You will work with policy and technical colleagues to develop new requirements, respond to queries, and promote safety, quality and efficiency

Formación

• Experience in assessing heavy vehicle statutory test applications.
• Ability to advise non-technical teams and external stakeholders.
• Proven collaboration with policy teams and regulators.
• Strong risk assessment and problem solving.
• Excellent communication with internal and external customers.

Responsabilidades

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for both first test and vehicle conversion, checking reports and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance.
• Undertake assessment of applications of approved vehicles via the ECWVTA teams.
• Provide technical support to non-technical processing teams and act as an advisory service to front line staff, operators, manufacturers, trade organisations, other agencies as well as the public on a variety of subjects including DVSA and related services, responding to written and verbal enquiries in a timely manner.
• Investigate possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards, for example where there are regulatory changes or to improve clarity within existing publications.
• Communicate positively and effectively with internal and external customers to ensure a full understanding of their requirements and to ensure a concise accurate response is delivered via technical inbox
• Provide support to the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager, representing DVSA at trade events and to carry out ad hoc related tasks.
• Maintain relevant data bases as required.
