Job summary

The Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer role at Government Recruitment Service is dedicated to processing heavy vehicle statutory test applications, including first tests and conversions, ensuring all documentation complies with DVSA standards.

You will advise frontline teams, operators, manufacturers and others, respond to technical queries, and help drive risk management and continuous improvement across a busy vehicle testing network.

• Experience applying technical expertise to assess complex vehicle applications and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Ability to identify risks, solve operational challenges and deliver excellent customer service in a technical environment.
• Collaborative leadership to support teams, influence stakeholders and drive continuous improvement across a busy operation.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for first test and conversions, checking reports and documentation for compliance.
• Assess applications of approved vehicles via ECWVTA teams.
• Offer technical support to non-technical processing teams and advise front line staff, operators and manufacturers on DVSA-related topics.
• Investigate solutions to mitigate risks and incidents.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and regulatory changes to improve guidance.
• Communicate clearly with internal and external customers to ensure understanding and timely responses via the technical inbox.
• Support the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager and represent DVSA at trade events; carry out ad hoc tasks.
