Job summary

The Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer at Government Recruitment Service plays a pivotal role in assessing complex vehicle applications to ensure compliance with DVSA standards. The role involves advising front line staff, operators, manufacturers and other agencies, and collaborating on new regulatory requirements.

The post supports the Vehicle Services leadership team and contributes to delivering a safe, compliant and efficient vehicle testing network across the UK, with responsibilities

Qualifications

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for both first test and vehicle conversion, checking reports and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance.
• Provide technical support to non-technical processing teams and act as an advisory service to front line staff, operators, manufacturers, trade organisations, other agencies as well as the public on DVSA and related services.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards, for example regulatory changes or to improve clarity within existing publications.

Responsibilities

• Process technical applications ensuring they are fully assessed and documentation is compliant.
• Respond to technical queries from non-technical processing teams and act as trusted advisors to front line colleagues, operators, manufacturers and others.
• Investigate possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards.
• Communicate with internal and external customers to ensure clear understanding of requirements and provide concise responses.
