Salary grade: Bank rates

  • Week day 0800 to 2000 hrs: £10.37 per hour
  • Week night 2000 to 0800 hrs: £11.93 per hour
  • Saturday midnight to midnight: £11.93 per hour
  • Sunday/Bank Holiday midnight to midnight: £11.93 per hour

Department/ward: Bank covering all services

Responsible to: Ward Manager

Responsible for: Delivery of patient care

Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) is one of the oldest independent hospitals and medical charities in the UK, not to mention one of the most respected. We are respected as an authority on Neuro-disability care, we provide training in neuro-care and research advances into the science of care for individuals with neuro-disabilities. Providing short and long-term specialist services for adults with profound or complex neurological injuries, the RHN is passionate about finding ability in disability.

We are seeking a Bank Health Care Assistant

We are seeking Student Nurses currently studying a Degree in Nursing at University to join our Bank as Healthcare Assistants. We require enthusiastic, caring and empathetic Bank Healthcare Assistants to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) assisting the registered nurses in delivering a high standard of care to the patient and residents of the hospital.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain experience with the RHN and decide if you would like to progress your career with us when you become a Registered Nurse. Working as a Healthcare Assistant / Support Worker during your degree will give you great insight into the rewarding nature of our work in caring for people with neuro-disability. We have a stable workforce of dedicated and compassionate HCA’s, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals who are delivering outstanding areas of practice for our patients and their families

  • Demonstrate an awareness of RHN’s objectives and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
  • Strive to improve efficiency in all areas of your work.
  • Working as a part of the team
  • Assist registered nurses and other HCA’s in the delivery of direct care to patients within the ward.
  • Working within agreed nursing standards and under the direction of the registered nurse or NVQ healthcare assistant.
  • To assist patients with all aspects of their personal hygiene care which will include; washing, bathing, dressing, continence and mouth care whilst enabling them to be as independent with these tasks as possible.
  • To assist with mobility including; hoisting, positioning and assisting with mobility aids.
  • To support patients with eating and drinking tasks, which may include the use of adapted feeding equipment, recording of food and fluid intake and feeding patients with an impaired swallow function.
  • Responsible for providing proficient communication with patients and others in challenging situations, which may include supporting patients with complex communication needs and patients who present with behavioural/emotional challenges as a result of their brain injury.
  • To support and enable patients to be involved in decisions about their care.
  • To maintain accurate written documentation in patients notes as required, concerning the day to day interventions and progress.
  • To ensure that key members of the MDT are kept informed of any changes in the patient’s condition.
  • To support patients to pursue social and leisure activities and assisting in a programme to help facilitate this.
  • To act as a point of contact for visitors to the ward, families, external agencies and other RHN staff and direct to the most appropriate person to deal with the issue.
