Practice Plus Group is recruiting a Healthcare Assistant to join the primary care team at HMP Wymott, delivering essential clinical support in a secure environment. You will assist with clinics, reception duties, bloods and health checks, while collaborating with nurses, GPs and wider professionals.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Bloods, ECGs, NEWS2, Health Checks, Observations, Wound Care.
  • Experience in clinical settings such as hospital or prison/secure setting is valuable.
  • Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care preferred.
  • Resilient, proactive approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work in secure, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Run and support healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks).
  • Work in reception (Early Days in Custody) performing basic health assessments and screening.
  • Support health promotion and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Act as pharmacy second checker and assist with medication rounds.
  • Collaborate with nurses, GPs and wider healthcare professionals.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the primary care team at HMP Wymott.

HMP Wymott is a large, Category C prison in Leyland, accommodating approximately 1,200 adult males, and we have a varied and complex population. Practice Plus Group provides primary care, mental health and substance misuse services across the wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services.

This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations - no 2 days are ever the same!

Salary

£25,557 - £29,723 per annum

Hours

This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week.

The working pattern is a 4 week rolling rota:

  • 4 shifts per week -
  • 3 x 07:30 - 18:00
  • 1 x 07:30 - 17:30
  • Alternate weekends

Please note, this role requires flexibility and will include unsociable hours, such as evenings, weekends, and night shifts where applicable.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks

What you'll be doing

You will support a range of clinical and operational activities, including:

  • Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)
  • Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and blood‑borne virus screening
  • Supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives
  • Acting as pharmacy second checker and assisting with medication rounds
  • Working collaboratively with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals

What We're Looking For
  • This is a clinical role, so it is essential that you have experience in at least some of the following: Bloods (phlebotomy/venepuncture), ECGs, NEWS2, Health Checks, Physical Observations (obs), Wound Care etc
  • Experience of working within a clinical setting, such as a hospital (A&E would be a bonus) or a prison / secure setting
  • Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
  • A resilient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to patient care
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure and fast‑paced environment
