Job Description:

Role:

Develop and implement c2c’s Health, Safety & Environment strategies, management processes, and standards, leading their execution across the business. Provide professional occupational safety, health, wellbeing, and environmental advice and support to various functions. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation. Act as the primary contact for health, safety, and environmental advice and support. Provide assurance that occupational health, safety, and environmental arrangements adhere to statutory legislation and industry standards.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Conduct planned safety and environment audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  2. Identify areas for improvement and best practices, implementing these as part of the safety plan.
  3. Advise on health, safety, and environment matters across the organization.
  4. Support statutory and regulatory compliance efforts.
  5. Participate in emergency planning and incident response activities.
  6. Lead incident investigations and promote shared learning to improve safety.
  7. Manage stakeholder relationships related to regulatory and internal requirements.
  8. Support the Lead HSE Manager in their duties.
  9. Act as the point of contact for health, safety, and environment issues within assigned functions.
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:
  • NEBOSH Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Strategic Safety Management course (A.D. Little).
  • Environmental Management Diploma or equivalent, or working towards it.
  • In-depth knowledge of health & safety legislation, construction legislation (CDM regs), fire safety, and environmental legislation, especially within the rail industry.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
  • Follow health and safety instructions and directives.
  • Use safety equipment properly and report any issues.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment and report any losses.
  • Maintain safety precautions and provide instructions if in a supervisory role.
  • Report accidents, incidents, or near misses immediately, including personal injury and vehicle damage.
  • Participate in investigations and safety training.
  • Report hazards or unsafe conditions promptly and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Be aware of personal and site security measures.
  • Comply with all safety policies and emergency procedures.
  • Set a safe example in all duties to prevent risks to oneself and others.
