We are looking to recruit afriendly, enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive experienced Level 3 trained Health Care Assistantto join our fabulous Practice team.You should havesuccessfully completed an appropriate training course and be competent in arange of HCA skills. Please note this is a Health Care Assistant position in a GP practice, it is not the same as a Health Care Assistant in a Nursing/Care home role i.e you must be able to take blood samples. This isan excellent opportunity for a part-time individual who is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of ourpractice population. The post holder needs to enjoy challenges and seeing the results their work has achieved. Ideallywe are looking for a Level 3 trained HCAalthough if you are not Level 3 at present, but trainingtowards Level 3 this would be acceptable.The vacancy is for 30hours per week Mon-Fri between the hours of 8.00am-6.00pm.
Essential skills andexperience criteria:
Atleast 1 years General Practice (or other MEDICAL HEALTH Care environment) experience asa Health Care Assistant
NVQLevel 3 in Health Care (or working towards level 3)
Proficientin System One and good computerskills
Abilityto work independently and under pressure.

Ourteam consists of 4 GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 apprentice Nurse associate, 2 HCA (this includes the vacant post), a management teamand clerical team.
We are also a training practice for GPRegistrars and Trainee Nurses.
We are an extremely busy GP Practice in Bradford and are located 5 minutes from the M62/M606 motorways.

Job Description Health Care Assistant
Job Title:HCA Level 3
Responsible to:Partners / Practice Manager
Responsible for:N/A
Job Purpose:
To provide a high quality care service based on the needs of the Practice population which includes treatment, screening, preventative care and patient education. Most of the work involves recording/viewing data on the electronic patient record so a high proportion of the job involves using a computer and admin work associated with patient care which is recorded in the patient record. So being computer literate is a must.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical (also see advanced duties if trained and competent in these areas)
1.To manage patients with chronic disease (e.g. Hypertension), running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems.
2.Participate in national screening work such as NHS health Checks.
3.Provide smoking cessation clinics and health advice to these patients.
4.Select, carry out, accurately record and advise on Blood tests, Blood pressure checks and urinalysis.
5.Provide any other health checks depending on competency.
6.Carry out ECGs as appropriate.
7.Act as chaperone when required.
8.Undertake health promotion to help educate patients including giving accurate and appropriate information within own competency.
9.Undertake New patient medicals and advise as appropriate.
10.Maintain a robust recall for Blood pressures, cytology and any others as and when directed.
Administration
11.To maintain accurate patient records and enter onto the computer using agreed Read Codes.
12.Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care.
13.To collect data and participate in regular Practice audit and research projects.
14.To contribute to the preparation of any Practice development plans.
General
15.To maintain own level of competency and complete all mandatory training as necessary. This includes the practical skills to administer and/or assist in basic life support.
16.Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication. Understanding this may have to be a different approach in specific clinical situations.
Communicating effectively with all team members.
17.Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines/drugs/stock etc within area of responsibility. This includes monitoring fridge temperatures and understanding when to raise concern with appropriate Manager if any issues arise.
18.To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all staff, patients, carers and co-workers from other agencies. Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Health & Safety, Infection Control, COSHH, etc) are implemented and adhered to.
19.To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients, staff both in and out of the Practice and have a high level of work ethos.
20.To maintain own continuous professional development and ensure PDP kept up-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice.
21.Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and in-house clinical training sessions.
22.Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time within own level of competency.
Advanced duties if appropriate training has been completed
23.Assist and/or carry out basic reviews/checks for Diabetic patients.
24.Assist and/or carry out basic reviews/checks for COPD patients.
25.Basic wound care.
26.Assist and/or carry out Spirometry.
28.Administer Flu and pneumococcal vaccinations.
30.Carry out checks and procedures on equipment as appropriate.
31.Complete all new and updated training relevant to additional duties.
