Equans is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Birmingham on a permanent basis.

This is a full-time, onsite role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company car or allowance, bonus, and benefits package.

The purpose of the role is to provide guidance and leadership to ensure that contracts in the Technical Services (TS) division meet their statutory safety and environmental requirements and to assist contracts in delivering responsible business initiatives.

This role will identify and deliver solutions to improve operational safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) in contracts in the assigned part of TS. Working closely with operational teams and the Responsible Business, CDM, and SHEQ Solutions teams, this role will ensure the EQUANS objectives and SHEQ culture are embedded within sites and contracts at a regional level.

What will you deliver?
  • Management of SHEQ across the Regional Operational area to ensure all work complies with standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with senior SHEQ managers and teams to maintain systems meeting statutory and company obligations.
  • Accurately record reportable data such as Near Misses, Accidents, RIDDORs, HiPos, LTIs, Incidents, and other relevant metrics.
  • Establish SHEQ Action Plans for each contract to promote safer workplaces and improve employee engagement and culture.
  • Act on SHEQ audit findings, providing guidance and feedback to improve safety and quality.
  • Promote and champion Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and responsible business initiatives.
  • Mentor Safety Ambassadors and Responsible Business Champions within contracts.
  • Lead by example in upholding company values and objectives.
  • Ensure all colleagues have appropriate safety and responsible business training via Training Matrices or Learning Management Systems.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, ensuring thorough reports and root cause analysis.
  • Hold close-out meetings to ensure incidents are fully addressed and action plans are implemented.
  • Support internal functions with systems and resources to manage risks effectively.
  • Coach contracts on the use of reporting tools and provide feedback for reporting improvements.
  • Develop strategic relationships with HSE/EHOs and industry forums.
  • Support bids and tender processes by demonstrating H&S commitment.
  • Work collaboratively with other SHEQ teams to foster a positive health and safety culture.
  • Provide innovative, market-leading solutions for continuous safety improvement.
