Qualifications

Equans is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full-time, onsite role working 37.5 hours per week. We offer a competitive salary, a company car or allowance, bonus, and benefits package.

The role's purpose is to provide guidance and leadership to ensure that contracts in the Technical Services (TS) division meet statutory safety and environmental requirements, and to support responsible business initiatives.

This role will identify and implement solutions to improve operational safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) in assigned contracts. Working closely with operational teams, Responsible Business, CDM, and SHEQ Solutions teams, this role will help embed SHEQ objectives and culture within sites and contracts at a regional level.

What will you deliver?
  1. Manage SHEQ across the Regional Operational area to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines.
  2. Collaborate with senior SHEQ managers and teams to maintain systems meeting statutory and company obligations.
  3. Ensure accurate reporting of safety and environmental data, including near misses, incidents, and sustainability initiatives.
  4. Establish SHEQ Action Plans for each contract to promote safer workplaces and a positive safety culture.
  5. Act on SHEQ audit findings, providing guidance to sites and feedback to improve tools and systems.
  6. Promote CSR and Responsible Business initiatives across contracts.
  7. Mentor Safety Ambassadors and Responsible Business Champions within contracts.
  8. Lead by example, embodying company values and objectives.
  9. Ensure training and development needs are met through Training Matrices or Learning Management Systems.
  10. Lead incident investigations, providing detailed reports and recommendations.
  11. Conduct close-out meetings to ensure incident investigations are completed and actions are implemented.
  12. Support other functions to manage risks effectively.
  13. Coach contracts in using reporting tools and provide feedback for system improvements.
  14. Build strategic relationships with HSE/EHO and industry forums.
  15. Support bids and tender processes by demonstrating H&S commitment.
  16. Participate in RB activities and campaigns.
  17. Work collaboratively with SHEQ teams to foster a positive health and safety culture.
  18. Provide innovative, continuous improvement solutions focused on safety and responsible business.

Who are we looking for?
  • Experience in a Health and Safety role within Construction, Healthcare FM, or related industries.
  • NEBOSH qualification.
  • Knowledge of construction, energy, and FM technologies.
  • Experience with SHEQ legislation.
  • Membership of IOSH.
  • Ability to pass a DBS Standard check.
