Equans is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full-time, onsite role working 37.5 hours per week. The package includes a competitive salary, company car or allowance, bonus, and benefits.

The role's purpose is to provide guidance and leadership to ensure that contracts in the Technical Services (TS) division meet statutory safety and environmental requirements, supporting responsible business initiatives.

This position involves identifying and implementing solutions to enhance operational safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) within assigned contracts. Working closely with operational teams and SHEQ solutions teams, the role aims to embed SHEQ culture and objectives across sites and contracts regionally.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage SHEQ across the regional operational area, ensuring compliance with standards and guidelines.
  2. Collaborate with senior SHEQ managers and teams to maintain systems meeting statutory and company obligations.
  3. Accurately record reportable data such as incidents, near misses, and environmental metrics.
  4. Develop SHEQ Action Plans with contract managers to promote safer workplaces and improve engagement.
  5. Respond to SHEQ audit findings, providing guidance and feedback for improvements.
  6. Promote CSR and responsible business initiatives within contracts.
  7. Mentor Safety Ambassadors and Responsible Business Champions.
  8. Lead by example, embodying company values and objectives.
  9. Ensure all staff have appropriate SHEQ training and qualifications, monitoring delivery and impact.
  10. Lead incident investigations, providing detailed reports and recommendations.
  11. Conduct close-out meetings for incidents and investigations, presenting findings to prevent recurrence.
  12. Support internal functions to manage risks effectively.
  13. Coach contracts on reporting tools and provide feedback for reporting enhancements.
  14. Build strategic relationships with industry regulators and forums.
  15. Support bid processes, demonstrating health and safety leadership.
  16. Participate in CSR activities and campaigns.
  17. Collaborate with teams to foster a positive health and safety culture and compliance system.
  18. Drive innovation and continuous improvement in safety and responsible business practices.

  • NEBOSH qualification
  • Knowledge of construction, energy, and FM technologies
  • Understanding of SHEQ legislation
  • Membership of IOSH
  • Ability to pass a DBS check
