Job summary

St John's Primary School in the Isle of Man is seeking an experienced Headteacher to lead a vibrant school community. You will set direction, drive improvement and build strong partnerships with pupils, staff, families and governors to raise standards.

As Headteacher at St John's Primary School, you'll provide the direction that brings together pupils, staff, parents and governors around a shared commitment to high standards and positive outcomes. Building on the school's success, you'll create the conditions for excellent teaching, meaningful learning experiences and a culture where children are supported to grow in confidence, capability and ambition.

You'll shape the future of the school by setting clear expectations, driving continuous improvement and ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. Working closely with staff, families and the wider community, you'll foster an inclusive environment where achievement is celebrated, wellbeing is valued and strong relationships help children and colleagues thrive.

We're looking for an existing Headteacher or an experienced Deputy Headteacher with a proven record of school improvement, developing high-performing teams and delivering excellent outcomes for pupils. You'll bring resilience, sound judgement and a commitment to inclusive, child-centred education, alongside the ability to inspire confidence, build strong partnerships and bring out the best in others.

• A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.
• Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, you will be offered two pensions arrangements: the Teachers Superannuation scheme or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) arrangement.
• If you are returning to the island and have participated in the Department’s Student Loan scheme for tuition fees, the loan will be repaid by the Department upon completion of your second year working as a teacher at one of the island’s schools. The repayment is subject to a maximum of £7,500 for a three year degree course or £10,000 for a four year degree course, and the requirements detailed in the Teacher Loan Cancellation Policy.
• For those returning to the island after graduating from university, you will receive a refund on your national insurance contributions during the first 12 months of your employment, up to £4,400.
