Salary: £66,475 (pro rata) per annum. Rising to £67,140 (pro rata) per annum on successful completion of probation. Part-time minimum four working days.

A Civil Service Pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%

Contract type: Temporary, Fixed term Loan

Length of employment: We offer this role on a temporary basis for 18 months. We may extend the role beyond this, depending on business requirements, or with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Job Description

Are you a payroll expert with a passion for leading high-performing teams and delivering excellent service? We’re looking for an experienced Head of Operations to lead and develop our payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of pay to our valued workforce.

As Head of Payroll, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the payroll process, managing a skilled team, and ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, HR, and Finance colleagues to support business needs and continuous improvement.

About You

• CIPP member or hold a recognised payroll qualification, or CIPD membership with significant payroll experience
• Proven experience in leading a payroll function in a complex or public sector environment
• In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation, tax, pensions, and statutory reporting requirements
• Strong analytical skills and experience working with payroll and HR systems
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
