Head of Operations – Remote

Step into a senior leadership role at a leading multi-utility connections company that champions innovation and service excellence. At UKPS (part of the Last Mile Group), we take pride in delivering high-quality gas, water and electricity infrastructure across residential, commercial, and industrial developments nationwide.

We’re looking for a talented Head of Operations with proven experience to lead our diverse and growing operational workforce. In this role, you’ll take full responsibility for the delivery and installation of the utility network build of our project portfolio, ensuring our teams are working safely, compliant, and performing efficiently. You’ll lead a team of Regional Operations Managers and Operations Site Managers, overseeing a programme of works while maintaining quality, safety, and programme adherence.

Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you’ll play a key role in driving commercial performance and leading strategic improvements in the operational delivery, whilst maintaining compliance and customer delivery performance.

Your responsibilities as a Head of Operations:

• Leadership & Strategy: Lead a diverse department of Managers and site teams driving operational strategy, aligning resources with project pipelines, and ensuring consistent delivery across all projects.
• Team & Culture Development: Inspire a high-performing, multi-disciplined team—including Operations, Logistics, and Stores—fostering collaboration, development, and a positive culture aligned with UKPS’s Operational Code of Conduct.
• Project Delivery & Quality: Ensure all programmes of work are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to the highest quality—conducting root cause analysis where needed and upholding adopting Network standards.
• Resource, Fleet & Subcontractor Management: Maintain optimum resourcing levels, ensure operatives have the correct plant and tooling, manage fleet requirements, and oversee the use of vetted subcontractors to agreed terms.
• Commercial & Customer Focus: Drive improvements in commercial performance and customer service by working closely with Senior Managers and Heads of Construction to resolve challenges, support complaint resolution, and ensure consistent standards.
• Performance & Compliance: Deliver monthly performance reports, maintain strong HSEQ standards, support audits, and lead continuous improvement initiatives across operational processes, training, and succession planning.

Experience / Knowledge:

• Have experience in a senior management role, leading complex and diverse teams and processes.
• Have demonstrable experience of delivering process change and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrable relevant experience is more important that formal education (Desirable)
