Job description

This isn't a clipboard-and-cones HSE role. This is about people first, paperwork second—building a culture where safety is lived, owned, and embedded from intake bay to boardroom.

You’ll be the visible, trusted HSE leader on site. The one people listen to. The one who coaches, challenges, and champions. If you believe the best safety systems are built on relationships, credibility, and consistency, read on.

What You’ll Be Accountable For
People‑Led Safety Culture
  • Be present on the factory floor—coaching, engaging, influencing, not policing.
  • Build trust with frontline teams, supervisors, engineers, and leadership.
  • Develop a proactive, ownership‑led safety culture where near‑misses are reported and learning is shared.
  • Lead behavioural safety initiatives that actually stick (not posters that fade).
Health & Safety Leadership
  • Own and continuously improve the site H&S management system.
  • Lead risk assessments, safe systems of work, and accident investigations with empathy and clarity.
  • Deliver engaging training and toolbox talks that people remember on a Monday morning.
  • Act as the go‑to authority during incidents—calm, decisive, human.
Environmental Stewardship
  • Drive environmental compliance and improvement: waste, water, energy, emissions.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives that make commercial and ethical sense.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permits.
  • Track, report, and improve environmental KPIs with credibility and pace.
Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure full compliance with UK HSE legislation and food manufacturing standards.
  • Lead internal audits and support external audits and inspections.
  • Maintain clear, practical documentation—built for operators, not just auditors.
  • Provide clear, honest reporting to the site leadership team.
Leadership & Influence
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, HR, and Technical to embed HSE into everyday decision‑making.
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours at all levels—with confidence and respect.
  • Be a role model: visible, consistent, and values‑led.
