Job summary

Up Learn is seeking a Head of Data to lead and scale our data function, reporting to the CEO. You will set data strategy, own the Data team OKRs, and elevate product analytics and learning metrics across the organisation.

The role combines strategic leadership with practical delivery to support rapid growth while maintaining data privacy and trust with schools and learners. You will build a high-performing team, advance our data foundations with dbt and Lightdash, and shepherd responsible AI

Qualifications

• Experience of data modelling and analytics engineering using the dbt ecosystem.
• Owning a data roadmap and delivering outcomes for a growing organisation.
• Strong product analytics capability: defining KPIs and measuring feature impact.
• Experience designing or leading statistical tests or experiments, esp. evaluation/impact measurement.
• Practical data governance: metrics, access controls, retention, auditing and privacy-by-design.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration with clear view of department needs.

Responsibilities

• Own the Data roadmap and quarterly plan aligned to GCSE expansion and impact evidence.
• Embed instrumentation and KPIs in product processes for fast learning and iteration.
• Improve KPI-driven insights across Product, Commercial, and Operations.
• Design credible learning impact evaluations and translate findings into priorities.
• Oversee responsible AI governance for learner data and privacy.
• Lead data privacy and school assurance, supporting DPIAs and data-sharing agreements.
• Improve funnel visibility and ROI analysis across channels and retention.
• Build a high-performing data team and ensure a scalable dbt/Lightdash stack.
