Job description

Diagnostic World is a fast-growing, entrepreneurial business seeking an experienced Head of Business Development to join our high-performing team and lead growth within the NHS sector. The successful candidate will have a strong network of senior NHS colleagues across ICBs and NHS Trusts, leveraging these relationships to generate new business opportunities and secure contracts.

This role offers great autonomy, with commercial responsibility for revenue and margin performance for our community diagnostic service solutions, an area with significant growth potential. A deep understanding of the NHS Diagnostic Services market will enable you to contribute positively in a fast-paced environment, developing service solutions and collaborating closely with the wider team.

What you will do:

The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing new business, bidding for tenders, and managing contract relationships with NHS bodies. Collaboration with internal teams, healthcare professionals, and key decision-makers to develop sustainable partnerships is essential. The role involves remote work with nationwide travel to meet client demands.

Experience in the diagnostic services sector is preferred but not essential; the ability to build relationships and communicate solutions effectively to secure contracts is necessary.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining a high-level network of NHS stakeholders within ICBs, NHS Trusts, and community diagnostic centres.
  • Analyzing management information and market metrics to support growth activities.
  • Identifying, generating, and converting new business opportunities through established relationships and proactive networking.
  • Sourcing and assessing tender opportunities, working with internal teams to develop bids.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals and external partners to shape innovative service offerings aligned with NHS priorities.
  • Building strong relationships with senior NHS purchasers, demonstrating professionalism and promoting Diagnostic World Services.
  • Maintaining a strategic outlook to identify long-term growth opportunities within the NHS landscape.
  • Representing the organization at industry events, delivering presentations, and engaging with NHS decision-makers.
  • Working with Marketing to ensure effective promotional materials.
  • Supporting company-wide business development initiatives, working independently and as part of a team.
  • Traveling across the UK to meet NHS stakeholders and attend meetings.
  • Exploring new strategic partnerships with independent diagnostic providers and working with the executive team on commercial aspects.

  • Decisiveness, proactive problem anticipation, and contingency planning skills.
  • Previous experience in diagnostic services is preferred.
