Job summary

Avara Foods is hiring a Hatchery Operative at the Usselby Hatchery to support the early stages of our supply chain. You will help hatch chicks and prepare them for delivery to farms, ensuring quality and biosecurity in daily operations.

The role offers full training, a guaranteed set of hours, and opportunities for overtime. A flexible, reliable approach and good English are essential for success in this hands-on position.

Qualifications

  • Previous hatchery, farming, agriculture, or manufacturing experience is an advantage but not required.
  • Full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Sort chicks into correct grades and quantities for farm delivery.
  • Transfer eggs from storage to incubation machines and through the hatching process.
  • Maintain high hygiene standards by cleaning equipment and work areas.
  • Follow biosecurity procedures to protect bird health and welfare.
  • Monitor bird welfare and health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet daily production targets.

Working Hours
  • Monday: 06:00 - 17:00
  • Tuesday: 06:00 - 16:30
  • Friday: 06:00 - 17:00
  • Saturday: 06:00 - 11:30
About The Role

As a Hatchery Operative, you'll be a vital part of our Hatchery Team, helping to ensure the successful hatching and preparation of chicks for delivery to farms. This role plays an essential part in the beginning of our supply chain and contributes directly to the success of our business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sort chicks into the correct grades and quantities ready for farm delivery.
  • Transfer eggs efficiently from storage to incubation machines and through the hatching process.
  • Maintain exceptionally high hygiene standards by cleaning equipment and work areas.
  • Follow strict biosecurity procedures to protect bird health and welfare.
  • Monitor bird welfare and adhere to all health and safety requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve daily production targets.
What We're Looking For
  • Good English and basic numeracy skills.

  • Previous experience in a hatchery, farming, agriculture, food production or manufacturing environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.
