Turn this role into an interview — a resume and cover letter built around what this employer wants.
Jane Street offers a Summer Internship in Hardware Engineering (FPGA/ASIC) where you pair with mentors to work on real projects the team actually needs done.
You'll explore OCaml and Hardcaml to describe hardware, test designs, and integrate RTL code, with exposure to the internal toolchain and workflow. No prior Hardcaml experience required, and you’ll gain hands-on FPGA/ASIC experience throughout the program.
Our goal is to give you a real sense of whatit's like to work at Jane Street full timewhile also providing a truly unparallelededucational experience. As an intern, you arepaired with full-time employees who act asmentors, collaborating with you on real-worldprojects we actually need done.
In this internship, you'll learn how we usetools to make programming faster, more pleasant, and more reliable. We apply these same principlesto our hardware engineering work, and we'relooking for people who are interested in usingprogramming language technology to improve theprocess of designing, testing, and validatinghardware designs. We use Hardcaml, an OCamllibrary for succinctly describing hardware in RTL.Hardcaml is tightly integrated into ourdevelopment environment, so you'll also gainlots of exposure to the libraries and tools thatare foundational to our internal systems. Noprevious knowledge of Hardcaml is required.
The hardware team at Jane Street works on bothFPGA and ASIC designs. Depending on yourbackground and experience, we'll craft aproject that gives you exposure to our sharedHardcaml tech stack, as well as targeting an FPGAor ASIC platform.
During the programme, you'll dive deep onone project, mentored closely by the full-timeemployees who helped design it. Some internprojects consider big-picture questions thatwe're still trying to figure out, while othersinvolve building something new. Your mentors willhelp you gain a better understanding of the widerange of problems we solve every day. We expectinterns to build hardware applications fromconcept to a working design; your projects willpredominantly involve OCaml & Hardcaml, forboth RTL design and testing/integration.
If you’d like to learn more, you can read aboutour interview process, meet some of our newesthires, or check out our OCaml All The Way Downtalk and Programmable Hardware podcast episode. You can also learn more about Jane Street’sinternship programme here.
We don't expect you to have a background infinance, OCaml, functional programming, or anyother specific field—we're looking for smartpeople who enjoy solving interesting problems. We're more interested in how you think andlearn than what you currently know. You shouldbe:
