Job summary

Coventry City Council is seeking a Commercial Gas Engineer to join its Facilities Management team in Coventry. The role is hands-on, performing planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and project-related works across Council properties, with mentoring duties for apprentices.

This is not supervisory but requires independence, adherence to safety standards, and participation in an out-of-hours rota. Gas Safe registration and ACS/City & Guilds qualifications are essential.

Qualifications

• Gas Safe registration with commercial gas competencies.
• ACS / City & Guilds or equivalent commercial gas qualifications.
• Experience with commercial/industrial gas systems and maintenance environments.
• Full valid UK driving licence and willingness to join on-call rota.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair commercial gas, heating, HVAC, ventilation and heat pump systems.
• Carry out fault diagnosis and reactive repairs within agreed timescales.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance on heating and combustion systems.
• Record works and materials using a CAFM system.
• Provide quotations for remedial works and new projects; mentor apprentices.
