Job summary

Academics in Halifax are seeking a Behavioral Support Assistant to work with SEN pupils in Halifax. You will provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs and collaborate with teaching staff to foster positive behaviour and academic progress.

The role requires experience with SEN/SEMH, understanding of autism/ADHD, a calm and nurturing approach, and strong communication. Enhanced DBS will be required; weekly paid rates are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Understanding of autism, ADHD, trauma-informed practice, or other needs.
• Calm, confident and nurturing approach to managing challenging behaviour.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with behavioural or emotional difficulties.
• Implement individual behaviour support plans and use de-escalation strategies.
• Encourage and model positive behaviour and resilience.
• Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students.
• Collaborate with SENCOs, teachers and pastoral staff for consistent support.
