Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to join a SEMH school in Halifax. You will support pupils 1:1 and in small groups, helping them to manage emotions and behaviour with a focus on consistent boundaries and positive reinforcement. Prior SEMH, SEN, youth work or similar experience is desirable.

The role is full-time and long-term, offering ongoing support and development within a specialist SEMH setting and a competitive daily rate.

Qualifications

Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour.
Calm, resilient and confident approach to behaviour support.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Understanding of consistency, boundaries and positive reinforcement.

Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model.
Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour.
Use appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
Support pupils to access learning and remain engaged within the classroom.
Encourage the development of confidence, resilience, independence and social skills.
Work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide consistent support.
Maintain a calm, patient and professional approach when responding to challenging situations.
