Job summary

Academics are seeking a dedicated Behavioral Support Assistant to join SEN schools in Todmorden and Rochdale. You will work closely with pupils who have SEMH and behavioural needs, supporting learning, social development and emotional wellbeing, both one-to-one and in small groups.

You will collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement individual behaviour plans, promote positive conduct, resilience and inclusive teaching, helping students feel safe and valued.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs.
• Understanding of autism, ADHD, trauma-informed practice, or other additional needs.
• Calm, confident, and nurturing approach to managing challenging behaviour.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A valid Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with behavioural or emotional difficulties.
• Implement individual behaviour support plans and use de-escalation strategies effectively.
• Encourage and model positive behaviour and resilience.
• Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and supported.
• Work collaboratively with SENCOs, teachers, and pastoral staff to ensure consistent support for each pupil.
