Job summary

Starting Point Recruitment in Birmingham with a requirement for a Group Finance Manager to lead the day-to-day finance function across the group. You will report to the Group CFO, own financial reporting, controls and forecasting, and drive commercial insight for several businesses.

This senior role offers direct mentoring, career progression toward Head of Finance or CFO, and a broad, hands-on remit in a fast-growing SME.

Qualifications

• AAT Level 4 qualification or strong QBE background.
• Five years’ experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar finance role.
• Experience producing Management Accounts.
• Strong payroll knowledge, including weekly and monthly payroll.
• Excellent reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting software experience.
• The ability to work independently while building relationships across the business.
• Experience in recruitment, professional services or a multi-company environment would be advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Producing monthly Management Accounts across multiple Group businesses.
• Managing Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and General Ledger activities.
• Completing bank, ledger, stock and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Managing weekly temporary payroll and monthly salaried payroll.
• Preparing cashflow forecasts, payroll forecasts and departmental budgets.
• Supporting contract-specific financial forecasting.
• Preparing VAT returns and supporting year-end processes.
• Managing procurement, supplier relationships and financial controls.
• Working alongside the Group CFO on commercial analysis, strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Group CFO, you'll take ownership of the operational finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls and timely commercial insight across the Group.

This is a broad, hands-on role where no two days are the same.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and improving processes.

You'll ideally have:

• AAT Level 4 qualification or strong Qualified by Experience (QBE) background.
• At least five years' experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar finance role.
• Experience producing Management Accounts.
• Strong payroll knowledge, including weekly and monthly payroll.
• Excellent reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and accounting software experience.
• The confidence to work independently while building effective relationships across the business.
• A proactive, commercially aware mindset with a desire to develop your career.

Experience within recruitment, professional services or a multi-company environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
