Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Technical Director / Associate Director for Ground Engineering in the UK, with hybrid work options and nationwide scope. You will lead geotechnical delivery, oversee data and designs, and mentor a team across major infrastructure programs.

The role requires chartered status, a Civil Engineering or Geology degree (2:1 or higher), and strong knowledge of UK ground conditions. You’ll collaborate with multiple disciplines to deliver safe, sustainable solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology, 2:1 or higher.
• MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics or Geotechnical Eng advantageous.
• Chartered status.
• Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and GI practices.
• Understanding of current geotechnical design codes and best practices.
• Ability to collaborate in project delivery and client satisfaction.
• Networking capabilities in local and national markets for AECOM.

Responsibilities

• Oversee geotechnical data reviews and design calculations.
• Provide consultative advice through all project stages including site selection and optioneering.
• Manage geotechnical projects with planning, coordination, and budget.
• Lead Ground Engineering team to deliver projects to clients and internal partners.
• Maintain relationships to support a consistent pipeline of opportunities.
• Collaborate with Ground Engineering, Tunnelling and other teams on tender inputs.
• Mentor junior team members and foster development.
