Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Technical Director / Associate Director for Ground Engineering in the UK. You will lead technical development, oversee geotechnical work, and strengthen client relationships across major infrastructure projects in a hybrid work setting.

You will guide a talented team, drive design excellence, engage with internal and external stakeholders, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a growing portfolio of national and international assignments in energy, water, and transport.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or higher.
• MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is advantageous.
• Chartered status.
• Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices.
• Familiar with current geotechnical design codes and standards.
• Ability to collaborate in project delivery, work winning and maintaining client satisfaction.
• Knowledge of interpretation/parametric assessment for geotechnical problems.
• Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
• Effective networking to promote the AECOM brand.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing input, peer review and verification of geotechnical data and analyses.
• Providing consultative advice during site selection, optioneering, design and construction.
• Managing geotechnical projects including schedules, coordination and budgets.
• Providing leadership and support to the Ground Engineering team to meet time and quality goals.
• Maintaining industry presence and building relationships to sustain opportunities.
• Having lead responsibility for multi-disciplinary project delivery to stakeholders.
