Job summary

Kirklees Council is seeking Community and Environmental Support Officers to join the Greenspace Action Team. You will help maintain green spaces, clear waste, and engage with diverse communities to promote wellbeing.

You will work outdoors in all weather, support enforcement where needed, and contribute to environmental improvement across the district. A full driving licence and flexible hours are required for this role.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a public environment with direct contact with customers and staff.
• Ability to organise and prioritise allocated tasks, work unaccompanied and with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of issues affecting local communities and ability to engage/support communities.
• Numeracy and literacy skills to produce and maintain records; computer skills for reports.
• Flexible approach to working arrangements; willingness to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weathers.
• Physically fit to walk distances, bend and lift; medical screening may be required.
• Hold a full driving licence to drive suitable vehicles; travel to various locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ward Support: light maintenance, removal of graffiti, dealing with overhanging vegetation and removal of unlawful signage or littering; some highways reactive work.
• Fly tip Clearance: clear fly tips and search for evidence; work with Enforcement Officers for prosecutions.
• Engage with individuals, groups and communities to improve the quality of life across Kirklees.
• Work as part of Greenspace to resolve issues proactively and maintain outdoor spaces.
