Job summary

Royal Hospital Chelsea is seeking a Great Hall Supervisor to oversee meal service for Chelsea Pensioners and guests in the Great Hall. You will supervise preparation, service and cleaning, ensuring high standards of hygiene, health and safety, and customer care.

Reporting to the Head of Catering, you will coordinate staffing, training and rostering, monitor equipment and consumables, and lead a small team to deliver a welcoming, high-quality dining experience seven days a week.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising a team in catering, hospitality or similar service.
  • Customer-focused, organized and able to communicate clearly with colleagues, residents and guests.
  • Motivated team player with a practical approach and commitment to high standards.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety and COSHH beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the Great Hall team to deliver an efficient, welcoming and high-quality meal service.
  • Ensuring staffing levels, duty rosters and use of agency staff or overtime are managed.
  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, cleanliness and presentation.
  • Supporting, training and guiding staff in Royal Hospital Chelsea procedures and legislation.
  • Ensuring catering equipment and consumables are available and used correctly.

Great Hall Supervisor – Closing date 19th September

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is looking for a Great Hall Supervisor to support the smooth and efficient delivery of meal service for Chelsea Pensioners and guests in the Great Hall. This is a rewarding opportunity to join a unique and historic institution, working as part of a close-knit, values-driven community committed to care, respect and professionalism.

Reporting to the Head of Catering, you will supervise the preparation, service and cleaning of the Great Hall and associated catering areas, ensuring high standards of hygiene, health and safety, customer care and team performance are maintained at all times.

Working pattern: This role involves working five days out of seven and includes weekend working.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the Great Hall team to deliver an efficient, welcoming and high-quality meal service.
  • Ensuring staffing levels, duty rosters and use of agency staff or overtime are managed appropriately.
  • Maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene, health and safety, cleanliness and presentation.
  • Supporting, training and guiding staff in line with Royal Hospital Chelsea procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Ensuring catering equipment and consumables are available, accounted for and used correctly.

About you:

  • You will have previous experience of supervising a team in a catering, hospitality or similar service environment.
  • You will be customer-focused, organised and able to communicate clearly with colleagues, residents and guests.
  • You will be a motivated team player with a practical approach and a commitment to high standards.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety and COSHH requirements would be beneficial.
