Job summary

Protocol Education in Newcastle is seeking a Graduate SEN Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a pupil and help them thrive academically and personally within a specialist SEN school setting.

This role suits recent graduates in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Education or Childhood Studies who are passionate about SEND and eager to learn. Prior SEN experience is welcomed but not essential.

Qualifications

• A degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Education, Childhood Studies or a related subject is required.
• Previous SEN experience is desirable but not essential.
• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Working 1:1 with a pupil throughout the school day
• Supporting access to learning and classroom activities
• Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement
• Supporting emotional regulation
• Developing the pupil's confidence and independence
• Helping with transitions and changes in routine
• Using appropriate communication strategies
• Building a strong and professional relationship with the pupil
• Working alongside teachers and specialist SEN staff
