Job summary

OpenWorks Engineering Ltd is seeking an IT Operations Engineer to own the IT environment, lead managed support, and maintain critical infrastructure to support growth across UK and USA operations.

You will drive IT service improvements, manage Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms, and deliver infrastructure projects while planning capacity for evolving business needs. The role combines hands‑on operations with strategic planning.

Qualifications

• Experience in IT operations or IT infrastructure with ownership of a broad technical environment.
• Proven track record leading IT support delivery and managing third‑party IT providers.
• Strong Microsoft 365 and SharePoint experience in a modern cloud‑first environment.
• Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networking and cloud platforms to define requirements and assess performance.
• Security awareness with familiarity of ISO 27001 or similar controls and Cyber Essentials.
• Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance to Secret level.
• Commercial awareness in hardware budgeting, resource planning or supplier management.
• Business‑focused mindset with ability to communicate with technical and non‑technical users.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT support delivery: oversee Managed Support Provider, monitor SLA performance and escalate complex incidents.
• Drive service improvement: identify opportunities to enhance IT support processes and user experience.
• Manage IT infrastructure: oversee network design, configuration, performance and hardware lifecycle.
• Manage Microsoft cloud platforms: maintain and develop Microsoft 365 and Azure environments for a secure, reliable service.
• Deliver IT projects: lead infrastructure projects including networking, hardware, switches and site expansions.
• Plan for future growth: undertake capacity planning, budgeting and technology roadmaps.
• Maintain business continuity: develop and test incident response plans and manage major incidents.
• Support our USA operation: administer OpenWorks USA IT systems and align IT provision with growth.
