Happl, a rapidly growing benefits platform with a London base, is hiring a Financial Controller. You will own the finance engine: close, revenue, compliance, treasury, and reporting across two jurisdictions. This high-autonomy role reports to the founders and collaborates with investors and external partners.

You’ll shape the finance function, design controls, implement scalable billing and AI-assisted workflows, and drive strategic decisions across 160+ countries and 70+ languages.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with end-to-end close ownership and management reporting.
• Proven ability to run monthly close, commentary, and investor packs.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling for scenario analysis and reporting.
• Strong grounding in revenue recognition, accruals, and balance sheet control.
• Tax/compliance experience UK and US across VAT, corp tax, payroll.
• Comfort with AI tools to automate workflows.
• Attention to detail with strong judgement for when speed matters.
• Excellent communication to explain numbers to non-finance audiences.
• Experience in SaaS/subscriptions and ARR/reporting.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close on a fixed timetable with accuracy and timeliness.
• Write commentary explaining business results beyond the numbers.
• Produce investor packs and board reporting with ARR, cash and runway analyses.
• Manage revenue cycle: invoicing, collections, revenue recognition across multi-currency contracts.
• Lead rollout of automated billing and revenue recognition tooling for scale.
• Manage two legal entities (US TopCo, UK op) and intercompany accounting.
• Own compliance calendar across UK VAT, corporate tax, US filings, payroll taxes.
• Support FCA regulatory reporting and internal financial controls.
• Run monthly payroll across jurisdictions; manage expenses and onboarding/offboarding finance.
