Job summary

WSP is seeking a Technical Director Geotechnical Engineer in Birmingham to lead major geotechnical programmes and provide strategic technical direction across the UK and internationally.

You will act as a recognised authority in geotechnical engineering, driving governance, best practice and client relationships while leading multidisciplinary teams and pursuing flagship projects. Chartered status is highly advantageous and collaboration across regions is essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading complex geotechnical engineering programmes.
• Deep expertise in geotechnical engineering and ground engineering.
• Experience acting as a technical authority with governance and strategic direction.
• Strong commercial awareness with proven ability to win work and grow client relationships.
• Excellent stakeholder management and ability to influence senior decision-makers.
• Proven ability to lead high-performing technical teams across locations and disciplines.
• Active involvement with professional institutions or technical committees; chartership highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for major geotechnical programmes and complex ground engineering projects.
• Act as a recognised authority in geotechnical engineering, setting standards and giving expert advice.
• Govern project delivery with focus on quality, risk management and professional excellence.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, industry bodies and external stakeholders.
• Develop long-term client strategies and lead pursuits of major opportunities and frameworks.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams across projects and regions to align resources with business needs.
• Drive technical innovation, sustainability, digital delivery and data management across the business.
• Mentor and sponsor senior staff to support succession planning and leadership development.
• Support business growth through market insight and thought leadership.
• Represent WSP externally at industry forums and client engagements.
