The Job

As a Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English), you will play a key role in supporting learners through their apprenticeships, ensuring they achieve essential skills in English and Maths. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, delivering, and teaching engaging Functional Skills sessions (online and face-to-face)
  • Completing diagnostic assessments and creating learning plans tailored to individual needs
  • Embedding Functional Skills into apprenticeship programmes, particularly within the construction sector
  • Monitoring learner progress, providing feedback, and supporting achievement of learning goals
  • Preparing learners for exams through mock assessments and constructive feedback
  • Maintaining accurate learner records and ensuring compliance with awarding body requirements
  • Working closely with instructors to embed English and Maths into wider programme delivery
  • Ensuring safeguarding and promoting a safe learning environment for all learners
Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and motivated tutor with:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (CTLLS or above)
  • Experience teaching English and Maths Functional Skills (ideally up to Level 2)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse learners
  • Good IT skills and experience with diagnostic assessments and progress monitoring
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, Prevent, and equality and diversity requirements
  • A proactive, organised approach and the ability to manage time effectively
  • A full, clean driving licence and enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) Experience teaching within construction apprenticeships would be advantageous.
