Job summary

LTE Group’s Novus division seeks a Functional Skills English Teacher to deliver engaging English lessons at HMP Oakwood. The role is permanent, full-time, 37 hours per week, working within a dynamic prison education setting to support learners’ progression.

Applicants should hold a teaching qualification with Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, and be prepared to undergo DBS checks. 40 days annual leave plus wellbeing provisions are included.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate ability to teach English up to Level 2 as subject specialism.
• Experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
• Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification.
• Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging Functional Skills English lessons to learners at Oakwood site.
• Conduct assessments and track learner progress with timely reporting.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Oakwood, working as a Functional Skills English Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37hrs per week.

HMP Oakwood is a Category C men’s prison located in Featherstone, Staffordshire, near Wolverhampton. It is one of the largest and most modern prisons in the United Kingdom. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

• Demonstrate ability to teach English up to Level 2 as subject specialism
• Achieve performance and quality targets
• Produce accurate and timely reporting
• Demonstrate positive team working
• Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
• Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
• Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
• Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
• A good track record achieving of quality targets
• Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
• Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
